“A little bird told me…”

When you want to let it be known that you know something, but don’t want to reveal how you found out, typically you will say, “A little bird told me…”. But did you know that the phrase is based on a verse in the Bible?
Curse not the king, no not in thy thought; and curse not the rich in thy bedchamber: for a bird of the air shall carry the voice, and that which hath wings shall tell the matter.
