Interracial Marriage

Deuteronomy 7:3-4(KJV)

3 Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son. 4 For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the Lord be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.

Oh, you read it right there! Interracial marriage is forbidden! Whites don’t marry blacks! The South was right! Oh, the humanity!!

Okay, I always say context is key, and that’s just as true with this verse, one which has been used to justify segregation throughout history. The Israelites were the only people this applied to. Remember what I said about context? If you read the whole chapter, you’ll see it’s talking about a specific thing. Namely, lands they conquered.

But also, the Israelites were the only people at the time that had a covenant with God, so they were always kept separated from everyone else.

When it comes to things like this, it’s always best to see what the New Testament says on the matter…

2 Corinthians 6:14(KJV)

14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?

So the New Testament says to not marry a nonbeliever. It doesn’t say to not mix races, just to not marry a non-Christian.
