Law of Moses

Matthew 5:17-18 (KJV)

17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

Is Jesus saying that we’re still under the Law of Moses, the set of 613 laws given to the Israelites by Moses through God? Well, at least now we can ask for forgiveness instead of sacrificing a lamb.

But what about these verses?

Galatians 3:23-25 (KJV)

23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. 24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after that faith is come, we are no longer under a schoolmaster.

Acts 6:14 (KJV)

14 For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.

The Law of Moses was only meant to be temporary until Christ could come to be the sacrificial lamb. Because of His sacrifice, we have forgiveness of sins. Here is a great site I highly recommend.

So if we’re not bound by the Law of Moses, how are we saved?

Romans 10:17 (KJV)

17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

Ephesians 2:8 (KJV)

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

Hebrews 11:6 (KJV)

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Luke 7:50 (KJV)

50 And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

Ah, I see it now. So we’re not bound by the Law of Moses because salvation comes from faith. As previously covered, you have to believe in Jesus (that he was crucified, was buried, and was resurrected from the dead, and that He is the only begotten Son of God). Jesus came and made everything so much easier. Instead of remembering 613 laws that you COULD NOT break because you would never be fully forgiven, now you just have to remember that simple thing, and on top of that you can now be forgiven of sins.

Romans 10:13(KJV)

13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
